With a quest for longevity and Old World Feel, Steffen Hyder works with natural materials to create spaces and objects of function and beauty. Steffen works across a diversity of mediums, including stone, wood, fire, and ink. Whether through fabrication, installation, or illustration, he shares his deep sensitivity and elegance to meet the aspirations of each client or project. With an avid interest in pushing design frontiers, he has a keen awareness of how form relates to both content and context.
The youngest son of a master American letterpress printer and a Swiss textiles artist, Steffen spent his childhood surrounded by paper and gardens. He continues to gather inspiration from a wide range of craft techniques, historical ephemera, and botanical pattern. Steffen holds a BA in History from Bard College, and currently resides in the Hudson Valley with his wife and wonderfully camouflaged cat.
